In an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) the L+ team developed a great design for the cottage, maximising the views of the scenery
Where: Mitcheldean, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, UK
Description: restoration of a historic Miners’ Cottage in the Forest of Dean, and Landscape design.
Notes: restoration and refurbishment of a historic stone cottage.
Concept: to open up the cottage to the surrounding area with spectacular views to the Severn River and the Wye Valley as well as the near proximity views of the edge of the forest. The strategy was to bring the forest into the garden and recreating a forest landscape and garden in contrast with the hard landscaped terraces designed in a contemporary way.
Interior: expressing the original stone walls in the interior where technically possible gave the cottage an individuality and character.
